Side Chapter Hood 5: Execution of a Traitor

Side Chapter Hood 5: Execution of a Traitor

Time passed and Colours double-checked her gear to make sure everything was in operating condition. It didn’t matter that the target was a vestige of her former self as a Dominous Hood member. She needed to be removed from this world.

“Are you sure she hasn’t told anyone?” Elly asked, adjusting the combat gear she was forced to wear. She had worn something similar before; Dominous Hood helped her power level to support her prediction abilities, but the fact was she never was a combatant. However, all she needed was mana to use the powerful weapons provided to her.

The two were located in a garage near where Colours tracked Lila to be. The doors were closed and she had drones that were on the lookout, waiting to find their target.

“Yep, I placed a bug on her.”

“A bug? I don’t think that is going to work, it would easily be detected.”

“Not a physical bug, it is a skill, it will also last for a little while but it will alert me if she says specific words.”

Elly nodded, “Well next question, does she know about the skill?”

“Course not, that would ruin the point.” Sёarch* The NovelZone.fun website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

They continued to check and prepare, waiting for the moment that Lila made herself visible.

While they were waiting, Elly wanted to ask, “I’m curious why you are here though, I mean the final day of the auction is about to start.”

Colours paused mid-motion. “How did you know about that?” Colours asked concerned. According to standards and practices of who should know; Elly was not anywhere near that list of people who should know about that mission.

“Please, it was requested that temporarily the number of predications would increase, that never happens, even for big operations, so it had to be something massive.”

“...” Colours didn’t know how to respond. Dominous Hood's operational security was something they took very seriously. At the moment, it was still fine, as the only person who discovered something was someone within their own ranks.

“Why are you so quiet? I think everyone knows that everyone is after the items in the auction, when they would be targeted is anyone’s guess though.”

“That’s fair.” Colours silently sighed and continued. “As every mission goes, only a set amount of people are assigned to it, even with one that big, they aren’t going to send everyone just for some items.”

A few more minutes passed.

“Found her.” One of Colours’ drones alerted her that Lila had been spotted. “You ready?”

Elly replied, knowing she already dug herself in with no way out long again. “Yes.”

Elly did make one final prediction that she didn’t tell Colours about, as every [Future Prediction] was a debuff on herself. But she couldn’t proceed without at least trying to see the possibilities.

Choice; Star; Friend; End;

In the end like every prediction it was vague and potentially not even about anything.

They moved into the city, it was late.

Elly asked, “Are you sure no one will show up?”

“As long as we are quick; the authorities are dealing with something on the northern point of the city.”

“I see…”

As assassination tended to go, the plan was to be in and out and try to make as little noise as possible. Colours knew with Lila’s level, there was a chance things could get nosy, but they hoped with Lila’s current mental state that wouldn’t happen. Of course, there was the chance the opposite was true; that she would do something dangerous easily.

Lila looked around waiting for someone, but then turned down a small street headed for an ice cream stand.

Colours and Elly stood on top of a building looking down at Lila. They were closer to the park than Colours would’ve liked, but Lila didn’t move around much. She slept in cheap hotels and did odd jobs during her tracking process over the last week.

While Colours and Elly were on top of a public building, they weren’t worried about being caught. They were wearing light armour that had multiple camouflaging properties, and not only that they had an invisibility dome up for extra security.

Elly was holding a small gun that could shrink into a small block for carrying purposes. Though it was small it was military-grade and very powerful. Colours had a rifle herself, but she also carried a large knife on her side. There was the chance she had to get in close to finish the job and she didn’t want Elly running.

“Fire.” Two shots rang out of their high-powered mana guns.

“!” Lila’s danger sense skills screamed at max alert, and instinctually, thanks to her training she used [Pocket Lightning]-[Lightning Shield] created a thick wall of lightning all around cancelling out the attacks. This action just saved her life as her heart and head would’ve had a hole in them otherwise.

The instantaneous summoning of the wall surprised Colours, as it wasn’t something she knew Lila could do.

Colours contemplated, ‘Is that a new trick? Or something you kept hidden.’

Lila hid her true Vocation [Lightning Hand] from everyone, including the special skills that related to it. For everyone else, they only knew her as a [Lightning Mage]. This idea of keeping it a secret was something she had learned from her time in Dominous Hood–let people only know what was needed.

The answer to Colours question didn’t matter and now that Lila was alerted to the attack things were going to be tricky.

The tip of Colours’s gun darkened and instead of firing the mana bullets, black smokey shots were fired instead. These were noticeably slower, but Lila saw these and knew who she was facing and was scared about her chances of survival.

Lila ran, but the bullets curved and followed her. Along with that Elly was still providing covering fire.

Colours jumped down and decided to end this quickly. Being a higher level she was confident that with her greater speed, she would easily catch and slit Lila’s throat–made even easier by the fact that Lila was busy just trying to dodge simple bullets.

Lila was good at movement, as long as it wasn’t in tight spaces and her use of Lightning wasn’t great at blocking attacks.

Lightning covered Lila’s body, but Colours wasn’t worried, that measly skill wasn’t going to be enough to protect her.

Lila vanished using multiple skills and dashed towards an opening into the park.

Colours simply smiled and clicked her fingers.

Before Lila could make it to the opening, a large dark blast exploded through the ground swallowing her.

The black cloud faded and Lila fell to the ground clutching her chest.

“Well, you had more tricks than I expected.” Colours lunged a dagger into Lila’s heart. “Goodbye.”

But before the stab happened a blitz of light flew fast taking Lila along with it. From start to now, the assassination attempt on Lila had only been ten seconds but it was already going longer than Colours would’ve liked.

The light appeared to be a figure running along a road from the briefest glimpse of its trail.

Without wasting a moment, Colours ordered Elly, “Let’s move.” And they followed after where the light went, as the light quickly faded away.
