Chapter 124: Chapter 123 Where Did These People Come From? (10th update! 500 monthly tickets plus update! Asking for monthly tickets!)

What on earth is going on with the creatures on this island?

The moment Lyla set foot deeper into Biland Island, she realized she was very likely duped by the higher-ups of the Country of Sun, or rather, someone deliberately handed her this death-defying mission.

That’s right! A death-defying mission!

When Lyla was briefed about the intelligence concerning Biland Island, the report only mentioned that the creatures on the island were subject to mutation due to some special energy influence.

The detailed explanation stopped there, and Lyla knew these mutations could slightly enhance the combat strength of the island’s creatures.

But in her mind, it was merely a minor enhancement at most—like a level fifteen monster getting boosted to level twenty-five in a game!

...

However, when Lyla and her soldiers first clashed with the island’s monsters, she realized the intelligence report severely understated the creatures’ strength.

This was no simple fifteen-level enhancement, and even describing it as a doubling of strength, Lyla felt, was inadequate!

“Roar!”

Thunder boomed and lightning struck all around the forest, turning the crystalized trees into charred remains. In the midst of the scorched earth stood a quadrupedal creature.

Its fur was ringed with copious amounts of blue electric arcs, and its claws and tail were completely covered by sharp crystals. The ferocious roars even made Lyla’s ears feel partially deaf.

“What is that thing?”

Lyla and her soldiers took cover behind a small hill, and she angrily grabbed a man dressed like a scholar next to her.

This man was an ecologist in Lyla’s team, who claimed to specialize in studying the ecosystem of Biland Island and was said to be very familiar with the island’s creatures.

But now, Lyla thought everything the man said was nonsense. Biland Island wasn’t an independent continent, just an island slightly bigger than most.

Although the island was located on the Seven Seas close to the Country of Sun, its creatures could theoretically be matched with counterparts on the mainland.

But the problem was… she had never seen a fifteen-meter-long beast capable of unleashing 100,000 volts of electricity near the Country of Sun!

“It’s… it’s an aberration of a Flash Wolf!” said the scholar with a trembling voice.

“A Flash Wolf? I could kill five or six of those wolves with a single sword strike! Look me in the eyes and tell me that’s a Flash Wolf?” Lyla shouted, somewhat uncontrollably.

Flash Wolves were a species endemic to the Country of Sun, small in stature, about one to two meters long, known for casting Thunder Magic spells. Perhaps a low-level Spellcaster might find such wolves troublesome, but for a high-level warrior Mage like Lyla, Flash Wolves were just ‘small fry’.

But now, several of her soldiers had already become charred ham sausages, not even enough to fill the gaps between teeth, at the paws of that one Flash Wolf.

“It has to be, Lady Lyla, its howl is the same as the Flash Wolf’s, and, and… the meaning of that howl is to call its comrades,” the scholar said with a tone of despair.

The next moment, Lyla saw three more wolves of the same size slowly walk out of different corners of the forest; their mouths dripping with saliva as they incessantly searched the air for the scent of fresh charred ham sausages.

“It’s do or die now!”

Lyla threw the scholar aside. She had never imagined that as the most talented eldest daughter of the Ferixi family, she would end up dying by wolves.

If it were just one mutated Flash Wolf, perhaps she could lead her troops against it, but there were four of them! It might take an army of more than five hundred from the Sun Empire to stand a chance against them.

But all Lyla had at her disposal were three hundred and twenty-seven soldiers…

“Get ready!” Lyla commanded the soldiers hiding behind the earthen mound, clenching the family crest over her chest, her thumb pressing on a sharp spike on the crest.

The spike pierced Lyla’s thumb, causing the crest to emit a blistering glow, while Lyla’s breathing became rapid, and her heartbeat started to accelerate drastically.

This was the unique gift of the Ferixi family, Burning Blood, a skill theoretically only usable once in a lifetime.

Under the influence of Burning Blood, Lyla’s physical abilities would greatly increase, but the cost was destructive bodily consumption, reducing her lifespan significantly with each use.

However, in these life-and-death circumstances, Lyla could no longer afford to care. She pressed her thumb against her Longsword, which immediately burst into crimson light.

Inscribe Honor!

This sword was also the sacred sword passed down from generation to generation within the Ferixi family. She did this to signal to her ancestors that this battle might be her last stand.

She would die on the battlefield, slain while fighting the enemy.

All that was left for Lyla to do was to claim her honor, to slay those four formidable foes!

Just as Lyla was about to issue the attack command, a calming male voice suddenly rang out before her.

“Excuse me, beautiful miss, would you happen to know the method to obtain a Mother Crystal?”

Who? Lyla turned her head sharply to look in front of her, where a man wearing a crimson denim jacket, sporting a denim hat and keeping a touch of white in his goatee, stood before her.

Lyla didn’t understand the style of this getup, but the man’s appearance was incredibly flamboyant, and what he wore was just as flamboyant, even sporting a rose pinned to his little vest.

Lyla was dumbfounded again, suspecting that she might be hallucinating due to being in a state of Burning Blood.

The man’s attire didn’t seem at all appropriate for a battlefield but rather seemed more fitting for some kind of social ball.

“Black Pot, she’s not responding to you.”

“Is it because your charm value is too low?”

“With charm value at fifty-three, how can that be low? If that’s low, then there’s no high charm value on the entire server,” Black Pot Cooking Meat said somewhat speechlessly.

“Let me do it! Let me do it!”

At this moment, Plush Rabbit darted out from the side, and only then did Lyla notice that the flamboyant old man wasn’t alone—he had a group of people trailing behind him!

When did they…?

Lyla frowned tightly, having been too focused on the pack of Flash Wolves behind her, she hadn’t noticed the approach of this group.

But were they Magic Thieves? Lyla’s gaze swept back and forth over the group that had drawn near, and her conclusion was… are these people a bunch of lunatics or what?

The first one to greet her, Black Pot Cooking Meat, was comparatively normal in appearance. Behind him, quite a few from the Dancing Nuclear Guild were sporting rainbow unicorn headgear and pixelated snowman heads.

What’s all this? A carnival parade? A clown troop from the circus doing charity performances on Biland Island?

Lyla’s mind once again plummeted into chaos, beginning to suspect that the state of Burning Blood was about to fry her brain.

“Handsome bros, could you tell me if you know anything about the Mother Crystal?” a gentle voice snapped Lyla out of her muddled thoughts a bit.

She looked up again and finally saw a normal person, a young girl dressed in a pure white nun’s habit, with her pale golden hair tied up by a hairpin.

The girl’s appearance was incredibly beautiful, almost bending Lyla’s normally straight orientation with just a smile, let alone those soldiers who had served in the army for years.

“No reaction. Is charm value not effective on these NPCs?” a member of the guild wondered.

“Who says it’s useless… just look at how they’re gazing at Plush Rabbit. My whole body’s shivering, okay?” Mom Has a Dog spoke up. “I’ll RUA as a sign of respect first.”

What Mother Crystal! Can’t you see the situation we’re in! Lyla almost wanted to hack these people right then and there, as the Flash Wolves behind them were closing in relentlessly!

While Plush Rabbit was still casually spreading her charm in an attempt to get some information out of these NPCs, the Flash Wolves nearby had already spotted Lyla’s hiding spot, and a thunderous magic strike descended from the sky… hitting none other than the battle mage ‘Mocha Coffee’ who was right behind Plush Rabbit.

“Damn it! Mocha Coffee got one-shot again!” someone shouted.

“Isn’t she from the Cola Fanatic Guild? Why’d she run to us?”

“Does nobody know?” Plush Rabbit didn’t pay any mind to what had happened behind her, still playing the role of a caring older sister and addressing the soldiers around her.

“Hey!” Lyla extended her hand pointing to the teammate behind Plush Rabbit who had turned into charcoal, trying to remind Plush Rabbit, who seemed to be a holy professional, that one of her teammates had been struck by the enemy’s Thunder Magic and was now completely burned.

In such a situation, Holy Light Magic should… have a pretty good chance of rescuing them, though severe burns were inevitable.

But when Lyla stretched out her hand, Plush Rabbit misunderstood it as her raising her hand wanting to speak.

Plush Rabbit excitedly held onto Lyla’s arms with both hands, her eyes shining brightly as she exuded a charisma.

“Do you know?” The last time Plush Rabbit used this method, she had triggered a hidden quest. She didn’t mind doing it again, even if the subject was a female NPC.

Know my ass! Your friend got roasted by lightning into a charred sausage!

Lyla’s head was really filled with thoughts about whether these people were insane. She felt a Schrödinger’s cat type of uncertainty about their sanity, which completely scrambled her mind.

But while Lyla’s mind was in disarray, the Flash Wolves’ minds were not. Taking advantage of this time, four Flash Wolves had split up and surrounded both Lyla and the players from the Dancing Nuclear Guild.

This is bad!

Lyla pulled her arms away from Plush Rabbit’s grasp, using her sword to prop herself up as she prepared to deploy her soldiers for an attack.

“If I save you all, what will you give us in return?”

A male voice suddenly rang out beside Lyla. As she turned her head about to snap ‘don’t bother me,’ she saw the man who had stepped out from behind Plush Rabbit, wearing an armor so normal that it moved Lyla to the brink of tears.

Finally, she saw someone among the group dressed for battle in armor! And it was the kind of full black armor that was armed to the teeth, the commanding presence of the armor indicating he was no ordinary fellow.

“What did you say?” Lyla didn’t quite catch what he was saying.

“We’ll kill those four Flash Wolves, what reward will you give us?” Mo Shigui asked Lyla.
