Aoma Village. Once lively and filled with travelers, the village entrance now stood eerily silent. Only two soldiers remained stationed at the gate. A crude wooden barricade, freshly assembled from newly cut planks, blocked the path forward. It was obvious that the quarantine had only been enforced recently.
“This plague gives me the chills,” said the young soldier on the left.
“Yeah. Just a single touch and you’re infected. Honestly, if not for the Lord’s orders, I’d already be back home,” replied the boyish-looking soldier on the right. Searᴄh the nôvelFire.net website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
“Life isn’t easy,” the first soldier said with a shake of his head. “I heard the last group of doctors sent here caught it too. Now even the Lord’s afraid to send help.”
“This quarantine’s been going on a while… People are bound to panic soon,” said the other uneasily. He remembered the stories his grandfather used to tell—about how a plague could sweep through towns, leaving homes empty and bodies behind.
“Don’t worry. I heard the Lord’s sending more soldiers by tomorrow to keep things under control,” said the first soldier calmly.
“I hope so… but what if it spreads through the air?” The fear on his face didn’t fade.
“That can’t be true… right?” the older one asked, frowning, voice uncertain. Neither of them dared to test whether the plague was airborne.
“Don’t worry. No one’s died, right? Maybe it’s just like the flu. They’ll recover soon,” the older one said with a smile. But his smile was strained. He was afraid too.
Suddenly, a gust of wind rushed past them. It vanished just as quickly as it came, before either could react.
Inside the village, the once-busy streets lay empty. There was no sign of life, only stillness. Each house had its doors and windows sealed tight.
Aoma, once livelier than most small towns, had fallen into a strange, suffocating silence. It felt as if the entire village was holding its breath.
Yaeger crossed the deserted streets and arrived at the village elder’s residence. Unlike the rest of the village, a crowd had gathered outside.
“You cursed wretch! Get out of Aoma Village!”
“Leave our village!”
The villagers shouted with intense hatred. A few picked up stones and hurled them at the elder’s home. Debris scattered as the wooden walls took the brunt of their rage.
Once their anger was spent, the villagers turned away and returned to their homes. They knew the risk of exposure, yet they came anyway—driven by spite. Their resentment was clearly aimed at Angelica, the one who had dared to rescue the black-robed stranger.
If she hadn’t meddled back then, would the village be suffering like this now?
As thoughts of their loved ones trapped inside the quarantined church filled their minds, their fury erupted like a volcano. Even though they all knew deep down that Angelica hadn’t done anything wrong. Even so, someone had to take the blame. Otherwise, how else could they vent all that pent-up rage?
In moments like this, reason didn’t matter. Or rather, only a rare few were capable of staying rational.
Inside the house, Angelica lowered her trembling hands from her ears, tears streaking down her cheeks. She knew she hadn’t done anything wrong, yet they still treated her like this. The pain in her heart was indescribable.
It wasn’t just her heart that ached—her body hurt too. A closer look revealed bruises scattered across her skin. She had clearly been struck by thrown stones or other objects.
It was obvious that Angelica had endured days of pain and abuse.
“I already told you—if staying here becomes too much, come find me in Jade City.”
A voice rang out suddenly from the living room, making Angelica jolt in shock. She was sure every window and door had been sealed with planks. How could anyone have gotten inside?
When she looked up, her fear melted away. Standing before her was none other than the radiant Princess herself.
“But if you’d come a little earlier, I might not have been able to help,” Yaeger said with a soft smile. It had taken time for her to acquire the [Green Emperor’s Longevity Manual] and hone her exceptional medical skills. If Angelica had come before then, she wouldn’t have known how to treat her.
“Princess!” Angelica blinked rapidly, realizing it wasn’t a dream. Joy rushed through her. Tears followed soon after, as if all her grief was flowing out with them.
“Heh, getting all teary-eyed already?” Yaeger chuckled as she walked closer.
“Princess, stay back! I’ll infect you!” Angelica waved her hands frantically, panic written all over her face.
“Relax. I can’t be infected,” Yaeger replied calmly.
The [Starfall Disease] only affected ordinary people. Someone of her strength was immune—otherwise, both she and Lili would have caught it long ago.
“Oh, right… I forgot.” Angelica flushed, embarrassed.
“No problem. You haven’t been looking too great lately,” Yaeger said as a glowing green needle materialized in her hand.
Before Angelica could react, it shot forward and embedded itself into her wrist. A powerful surge of life energy flowed from her wrist and spread swiftly through her entire body.
Angelica felt her body grow light, almost weightless. The bruises that marred her skin faded rapidly, as if they’d never existed. She had never felt this healthy in her entire life.
“Princess, what’s happening…?” Before she could finish, she noticed in shock that the Star Spots on her wrist were vanishing at an astonishing pace. And not just on her wrist—black Star Spots on her neck, stomach, and thighs were disappearing just as fast.
Within moments, the [Starfall Disease] was completely purged from her body.
“As expected, it’s not a very potent virus,” Yaeger said casually, then corrected herself. “No, maybe I’m just too skilled.”
“Princess, I’m cured!” Angelica cried out joyfully, overwhelmed by the changes she felt in her body.
“Yes. Congratulations,” Yaeger replied with a composed smile.
“Princess, I don’t even know how to thank you…” Angelica paused mid-sentence as something came to mind. “My father… his illness is much worse. Could you possibly…?”
“Of course. I came here to fix everything anyway,” Yaeger said with a reassuring wave of her hand.
Moments later, Angelica’s father—the village elder lying gravely ill in bed—was completely healed. There was no further treatment.
‘I give full care to girls. The men can tough it out,’ Yaeger thought casually as she exited the room with Angelica.
