Chapter 303: Ranran? What Are You Doing Here?

“Jingshi? What are you doing hiding here?”

When Jiang Jingshi saw Lin Zhengran coming over, it was like seeing her savior—but she quickly put a finger to her lips. “Shhh!”

As soon as Lin Zhengran stepped in front of her, he instantly understood the situation. After all, his mom was right over there chatting with a staff member.

He glanced at his flustered mom and chuckled, asking, “So, you figured it out?”

Jiang Jingshi’s heart was still pounding. “Zhengzheng, that suspense you created almost gave me a heart attack! Why didn’t you tell me your mom was coming to interview at our company?!”

Lin Zhengran watched as his mom finished speaking with the male employee and returned to the line. He roughly figured out what had happened.

Seeing that Jiang Jingshi was still a bit shaken, he gently took her hand and explained:

“My mom’s old workplace went out of business. She’s been seriously studying makeup ever since. When she saw that Zhengshi Music was hiring makeup artists online, she went and got certified just to try out.”

Jiang Jingshi peeked through the door again and looked at Lin Xiaoli in the line. She swallowed hard.

Lin Zhengran quickly interrupted:

“Stop! I knew you’d say something like that. Jingshi, you’re always so good to me. If my mom came in, you’d probably give her some easy job even if she didn’t know anything.”

“But I know my mom best. She takes things seriously. She’s been studying makeup nonstop for this. If she got in through connections, she’d be the first to call me out on it.”

Seeing her puzzled expression, he added with a grin:

“When my mom goes in, you and I will act as the interviewers. We’ll judge her skills directly. I have full confidence in her. She’s been putting in real effort, studying night and day for this career.”

Jiang Jingshi looked at him curiously. “Zhengzheng… don’t tell me you still haven’t told your parents you’re running a company with me? That you’re the owner?”

“Nope. But they’ll definitely find out today.”

Lin Zhengran took her hand. “Come on, it’s almost her turn. Let’s go be interviewers.”

The two of them entered the office from another door.

Meanwhile, back in line, Lin Xiaoli returned after her strange encounter. Curious fellow applicants asked, “What happened? What did they say to you?”

Lin Xiaoli honestly didn’t know. “Just some weird questions—what I drank this morning, if I had breakfast. Probably some kind of interview survey. They said some random stuff and sent me back.”

That answer cooled everyone’s curiosity. Companies often conducted random surveys during interviews.

Xiao Shu asked with concern, “Sister Lin, you okay?”

Lin Xiaoli chuckled awkwardly, “I’m fine, just a false alarm. I really thought I was getting cut. Scared me to death.”

Xiao Shu, clutching her documents tightly, said, “We’re up next. I’m so nervous. Good luck, Sister Lin!”

“Mm!” Lin Xiaoli gave herself one last pep talk.

I have to pass this interview!

Soon, the previous batch left the room, and a voice from inside called, “Next group!”

Lin Xiaoli, Xiao Shu, and four others entered the interview room one by one.

All of them looked visibly nervous. They walked in with synced steps, holding their résumés and interview forms. They stood in a line and greeted in unison, “Good day, interviewers!”

Right after speaking, Lin Xiaoli looked up at the four interviewers in front of her.

She froze.

Her pupils shrank, lips parted, heart skipped a beat.

All eyes were drawn to the youngest of the interviewers.

This interviewer—the handsome young man working for a big company—

He looked exactly like her son Ranran...

The nose, the ears, the eyes, the build, the mouth...

That’s... that’s Ranran, isn’t it?!

“Ranran?!” she blurted out. “What are you doing here?!”

Everyone turned to look at Lin Xiaoli.

Jiang Jingshi, meanwhile, nervously bit her lip.

Lin Zhengran cleared his throat and sat up straight, putting on a serious expression:

“This candidate, who is Ranran? Please refrain from acting overly familiar.”

Now Lin Xiaoli was sure—this was Ranran! Her own son!

That face and voice—any mother wouldn’t mistake her child!

Wait a minute… that girl next to him… isn’t she the rich girl who visited their house recently?

Wasn’t her name Jiang Jingshi or something?

What was going on here?!

Lin Zhengran, maintaining his composed demeanor, announced,

“Alright. There are six of you. I’m one of your interviewers today. I’ll start by asking each of you a few questions about makeup.”

He was a jack of all trades—skilled in any profession he put his mind to.

“Candidate number one, please respond first.”

Number one was Lin Xiaoli.

Lin Zhengran:

“How do you adjust makeup products and techniques based on a client’s skin type?”

Lin Xiaoli froze at the professional tone from her son. But since everyone was watching, and unsure what was going on, she quickly answered: S~eaʀᴄh the NovelZone.fun website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

“Oh! When designing a look for a client, I start by observing and communicating to understand their skin type. Based on that, I adjust the products and techniques to ensure the makeup fits and stays healthy. For example...”

She then gave several case examples. The other applicants listened attentively—they were impressed by her depth of knowledge.

Lin Zhengran nodded. “Not bad.”

His mom shot him a quick glare—I’ve got real skills, don’t forget that.

Lin Zhengran turned to Jiang Jingshi:

“You ask one too.”

“Me?” She leaned toward him and whispered, “Can we just let her pass? I think she’s amazing.”

“Passing after one question? That’s too lazy,” he whispered back.

“How is that lazy? She’s really good,” she pleaded, brushing his leg under the table.

Lin Zhengran relented. “Alright, fine. Do you two have any questions?” he asked the other two interviewers.

Those two—feeling the immense pressure of being seated beside the Vice President and President of the main company—immediately shook their heads like rattles.

They were more nervous than the interviewees, with sweat beading on their foreheads and palms.

Lin Zhengran sighed. “Okay, moving on—candidate two.”

Xiao Shu nodded.

Lin Zhengran asked another question. She froze, stared at his face, and got even more nervous.

Blushing, she stammered, “My answer is... um... I…”

“Don’t rush, take your time,” Lin Zhengran reassured her.

She answered in fits and starts, but got it right in the end—just very nervously.

Lin Zhengran continued with the others and quickly realized...

None of them were quite as skilled as his mom.

In fact, there was a pretty noticeable gap.

Once the interview was over, those who passed were sent to a new waiting area.

Lin Xiaoli was still dazed, while Xiao Shu was thrilled to have passed. She excitedly turned to Lin Xiaoli:

“Sister Lin! Did you see? That really young man and woman—those were the Vice President and President of the main Zhengshi company!”

Still puzzled, Lin Xiaoli blinked in confusion. “Huh?”

“You haven’t read the news? That woman is Jiang Jingshi, the ‘Angel’s Daughter’! She’s the Vice President of our parent company. As for the President, I had to dig through a lot of sources to find out—it’s said he’s around the same age as President Jiang, and super handsome.”

“From the way they talked just now, that handsome young guy must be the President of our parent company! This is my first time seeing him in person!”

Lin Xiaoli stood frozen for half a minute, then frowned deeply.

“What? You’re saying the general manager of Zhengshi Company is… Ranran?!**”
