Chapter 371 - 371: The Mysterious Group

While the battle against Netherius continued, the death ichor that was shrouding the city and making it unbearable for living beings was shrinking at a rapid pace.

Thanks to that, the Jade Dragons were able to enter the previously corrupted areas to clean them up from any remaining undead. Moreover, Camille also ordered the cyborgs to safely retrieve Dante from the fight if he seemed too injured.

All of the teams that were part of the Jade Dragons became active.

The Alpha Team, which specialized in heavy warfare, had gone to the northern checkpoint to take the NSS agents who betrayed them as hostages.

The Beta Team was the internal security, and since they had lots of people, they split into smaller groups to cover more space of the cleansed parts of the city.

The Gamma Team— specialized in infiltration and assassination— were ordered to advance all the way to the point where they could see Dante and Netherius, and while they were asked to stand atop the rooftops with snipers, there weren't many buildings that were still standing near the warlock.

The Epsilon Team, which dealt with political and business issues, was trying to convince powerful government officials not to send the Novarian military to the necropolis. However, their arguments seemed to fall on deaf ears, and they had no other choice but to call Camille and explain their situation.

As the battle with the necromancer prolonged, the Jade Dragons had an easier time traversing the streets with their vehicles, thanks to the disappearance of the death ichor.

Camille was being driven along the ruined streets in the direction of Dante's battle when she received the notice from the Epsilon Team, explaining that an unknown government official had ordered the Novarian military to enter the action.

The handler thought it was strange that the military would act after the death ichor was cleansed.

Even if they already knew that they would die inside the necropolis without a protective talisman, there shouldn't have been a way for them to know that the corruption was disappearing.

'Is it a mole?' Camille wondered as she kept walking.

The military was only meant to help the citizens evacuate the corrupted districts, so it was strange for them to switch tasks to supposedly hunt down the necromancer.

As the handler kept pondering about the military's actions, the vehicle passed by the giant corpse of the bone dragon lying on the ground, making her call out to the driver to stop for a moment.

Camille was shocked at the size of the monster, and at first, she believed that its white scales were real, only for one of the androids beside her to scan the corpse and explain that its structure was made of thousands of bones.

For a brief moment, Camille thought the dragon would look good as an art piece for the Jade Palace, comparing it to the dinosaur bones at museums.

Still, she snapped back to reality and ordered the androids to get some parts of the dragon's body, knowing that the scientist, Paige, would salivate at the opportunity to study the monster.

When she got back inside the SUV and traveled deeper into the cleansed but empty district, the battle between Netherius and Dante became visible up ahead.

Camille was still too far to see them, but the explosions and lightning that crashed down in the distance were impossible to ignore.

"This is as far as we can go for now…" The driver said, seeing the lights and smoke from the battle in shock.

Even though they were still quite far from Dante, it was too dangerous to get closer. Nonetheless, Sami the Hell-Cyborg was able to use the jets on her legs to fly, only to find Balthazar's battered body on the side of the street.

Sami battled with her thoughts for a moment, unsure if she should have prioritized Balthazar's safety or if she should've rushed to Dante's side—but when hundreds of golden lightning streaks began to crash down once again, the Hell-Cyborg felt a sense of unease, so she decided to grab Balthazar and get him away from danger.

Seeing magic that used 'ether' as its main energy source, it was natural for Sami to be fearful of it as it was her biggest weakness.

Camille tried talking to the warlock on her earpiece, and when she got no response, the handler became worried.

Trinity explained that she was also trying to speak to Dante, but it seemed like the warlock had lost his earpiece mid-battle.

"Well, I can't blame him. The fight looks quite intense…" Camille replied, though she still felt frustrated about not knowing what was happening up ahead.

At that moment, Imera, The Golden Fox, was hovering above Camille with Wolfram beside her, donning his new, female cybernetic body.

The two of them were preparing themselves to rush straight ahead to the battle, but the pair stopped for a few seconds when they sensed a strange presence nearby.

When the sacred beast told Camille that there was an unknown group that was also trying to get closer to Dante and Netherius' fight, the handler gritted her teeth and wondered if it was the Novarian military.

Still, Imera and Wolfram were determined to end the battle, so they rushed deeper inside the district after warning Camille, which prompted the handler to slightly change their strategy.

The Jade Dragons could take on the military if they really wanted to. However, that would also turn them into the number one enemy of the country, and the least she wanted was to turn other cities into war zones.

Even though a part of the NSS agents betrayed the Jade Dragons, the handler didn't have a choice but to call the director, Noria, to ask about more details on the military's movement.

While Noria Stone wasn't in charge of militaristic endeavors, Camille knew that the woman must have had information about the reason for their strange movements. S~eaʀᴄh the NovelZone.fun website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.

However, the handler was shocked when the director hesitantly told her that 'someone from above' was giving orders to the army, and Camille couldn't think of many people who had more power than Noria herself.

'-The fuck is going on?' Camille thought, anger starting to boil within her.
