His heart pounded like crazy. A chill ran down his back, and the heat in his body cooled down. It was only a few seconds, but Josh felt like it was an eternity.
What was strange was Chase’s reaction. He blinked with a puzzled expression rather than surprise and brought his hand to Josh’s ear. Josh, who was startled, soon realized why. He felt Chase’s warmth through the tape covering his entire ear.
“Why are you doing this? Are you hurt?”
His heart dropped with relief. Josh lied easily, “No.”
“I put an extra earbud in because it hurts if you keep wearing it.”
“Really?”
The voice had a strange lingering effect. It was too early to let out a sigh of relief. Chase suddenly turned over while hugging Josh. Their positions changed again. When Chase tilted his head, Josh thought he was going to kiss him. He was wrong. His nose was buried in Josh’s neck.
“… … .”
A deep breath was heard just below him. Josh’s body froze for a moment. His pulse pounded and his ears were throbbing. Chase, completely unaware of his reaction, continued to search for his scent, moving back and forth between his neck, collarbone, and behind his ear.
“Haa.”
When he finally lifted his head with a sigh, Josh’s heart burst and he thought he was already dead. Chase’s face came into his blank vision.
“You’re such a beta.”
“Yeah.”
Josh managed to say that. It was so fortunate that he had gotten away without being caught, but on the other hand, he was curious. Why did he look so depressed? Josh asked, pretending to be calm.
“What’s wrong with me being a beta? You hate omegas.”
“Yeah, I did.”
He seemed lost in thought. An uncomfortable silence followed. Josh waited for him to say more, but Chase quickly shook his head.
