Rubick looked around the room, his red eyes glowing from behind his mask. Starting from his left, he inspected each one of the so called "Supporters" that he had hand picked to be the heroes of Earth.
Some of them held great potential, at least from what he had seen initially. However, as his gaze traveled over them, his mood went from bad to worse. The face hidden behind the mask turned ugly, disappointment mixed with his resentment, threatening to overwhelm him.
"You useless pieces of garbage!" The modicum of self-restraint that he had remaining suddenly gave way, causing him to curse loudly.
The surrounding space itself seemed to crack and fissure under his anger, threatening to burst apart. It was as if they were in a glass cage with someone breaking the glass from the outside.
The bunch of supporters in the audience shivered at this sight, unable to move from their chairs. They could only watch on in horror as the robed man stared at them fiercely.
Yet just when they thought he was going to lash out at them, he suddenly froze in place. The fractures in space suddenly began to repair itself, making it feel as if it was all an illusion.
"Nature..." Rubick whispered in a barely audible voice, his gaze snapping to somewhere in the audience.
There was a few moments of tense silence, making everyone in the room feel uncomfortable. This was especially so for the person in question who was being stared at so thoroughly. Searᴄh the NovelZone.fun website on Google to access chapters of novels early and in the highest quality.
"Life Warden. Good, very good! Hahaha" Rubick threw his head back and began to laugh heartily, the mirthful sound echoing across the silent theater.
The mood swings from the being upon the stage made everyone aware of just how unstable this Rubick was. One moment he had been seething with anger, yet in the next he was laughing like a mad man.
Jayce’s ears perked up after hearing Leah’s name, a sudden feeling of worry overcame him. He was currently unable to move let alone fight, if Rubick was to do something to her, he could do nothing but watch.
Yet it seemed like he did not have to worry about anything.
"At least one of you f*ckers has half a brain" Rubick’s words dripped with anger, yet it no longer seemed so deep-seated.
"And here I thought it would be someone else who would take the first step." Rubick turned his gaze onto Jayce within the crowd. "Jayce, my number one supporter. You’ve really disappointed me this ti— huh?"
Rubick paused once more, his body still at an awkward angle. This paired with his skinny frame and billowing cloak painted an eerie picture.
"HAHAHAHA!" Rubick fell to the floor, holding his sides while rocking back and forth with laughter. This continued on for a good few minutes, making the audience feel as if they had been forced to attend a terrible improv show.
"Ahhh, perfect. This is perfect." Finally calming down from his earlier outburst, Rubick got to his feet like nothing had happened. "I can’t wait to see the look on those bastard’s faces." He murmured, now seemingly in a good mood.
"Let me Cook, Life Warden... It seems that I made the correct decision." The original flair that Rubick carried himself with had returned, bringing with it an easier atmosphere.
Jayce’s mind was racing. Rubick had not said much, merely stating their names. ’Is he talking about Laws?’
In essence, that was the only thing the two had in common. If this was true, did that mean he had found the correct path? Was this the reason why Rubick was disappointed in all the other supporters?
But the thing was, Jayce had only found these things out by chance. If he hadn’t skipped an entire 3 tiers of class upgrades, he wouldn’t have developed meridians, nor would he have unlocked the Mana Circulation skill.
It was only because he had replaced his mana with Inner Qi that he was able to delve into the Law of Fire. Leah was a different case, only learning the existence of Law’s due to surviving a Dryad possession.
So why was Rubick so pissed off that none of the other supporters had begun to practice the Laws? If they were to stick to the regular progression of the system, they wouldn’t reach their 4th tier classes until level 80.
But it had only been 12 months since the Apocalypse descended. There was no way that anyone was even close to level 80 yet, apart from himself who was currently at level 67. Yet he was only able to achieve such an exaggerated level due to his previous knowledge of events.
So how would he expect everyone to reach such a height organically? Unless...
’Did they intervene again?’ Jayce’s mind moved to the three beings upon the thrones that had appeared after he had cleared the Beast Tide.
’Rubick said that he couldn’t wait to see the look on those bastard’s faces... Is he talking about them?’
Jayce frowned, his mind running through various scenarios. ’No, that can’t be right. Aren’t Rubick and the three beings on the same side? Aren’t they the colleagues he was talking about?’
Just as his mind walked along this train of thought, he subconsciously shivered. An impossible idea formed in his brain, taking hold and refusing to let go.
[We can’t have the "Heroes of Humanity" killing each other can we?]
[You’re all too slow. I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.]
Jayce poured over the words and actions of Rubick in all of their encounters. Why would he impose a penalty on them for killing other humans? Why was he so pissed off when no one was taking the World Quest seriously?
Even today, the pure anger and distress he elicited at their lack of progress made no sense. That was, if he considered Rubick to be an enemy that wanted to destroy Earth...
However, what if Rubick was an ally? Someone who wanted Earth and humanity to survive?
’What the f*ck is going on?’
