When she left the space, she assembled everything in the living room and called Hades. He came to their loft and she explained what was next.
"Call your rich friends so that they can watch and learn and then go back to their bases and implement this."
"They are not my friends." He mumbled. "And by the way, Jon created an apocalypse messaging group for his little billionaires club and I was not invited."
Sunshine rolled her eyes. The world was on the brink of collapsing and a bunch of rich men were still playing pick me or favorites like toddlers on a playground! Jon Kingsley and his friends needed to do some growing up.
She slipped one arm around his waist and gave him a partial hug. "It’s okay, after the meteorites fall, they won’t be able to use their smart phones anymore and the messaging group will be no more. Also, they were stupid not to invite you because you have me hence the advantage on knowledge about how to survive the apocalypse. It is their loss that you are not part of their group. Tell you what, after we explain what the bubbles do, kick them out of our base personally."
Hades smiled and slipped his fingers through hers. "You are right, they don’t know what they are losing out on. We are assets."
"Yes!" Sunshine acknowledged powerfully.
After consoling him in the same way Hades had consoled Earl once, after some children refused to play with him on a playground, they separated. They placed the packages in a trolley and went down, driving out to the third wall.
Sunshine did not want unnecessary people in the inner wall so all general activities had to be undertaken in the areas of the third or second wall.
A comms officer in the central tower made the announcement for everyone to move to the information centers for an important announcement.
The soldiers reported early, civilians lagged a bit. Sunshine did not want to waste a moment and started addressing those that had made it to the third wall information center in person.
"Good evening, everyone that lives in Fortress Four, this is one of your leaders, Sunshine Quinn speaking. We have received credible information that a meteorite shower is coming, a deadly mist and acid rain.
To protect our home and ourselves, we are going to blow some bubbles. Err. Let me explain that. These are special bubbles created in a science lab to expand and form a shield above.
It sounds silly and childish but that is what it is. We are going to divide into groups. Some people are in charge of smearing gel on surfaces, as high as you can reach and others will use special devices to blow the bubbles.
Something to be cautious of is the gel. It smells like candy, but it is not candy. Do not eat it." Sunshine looked at Castiel that was looking up at her with so much trust and mischief. "I repeat, do not eat the gel."
Castiel laughed adorably and clapped his hands. "He is definitely eating the gel." she muttered before handing him off to Hades.
A camera that was broadcasting to every screen in the information centers recorded as Sunshine demonstrated what they were going to do.
In the first wall, Nimo was in charge. In the second, it was Major Elio and the third, Sunshine and Hades were handling things. The kids were loving this activity so much and they were just giggling and squealing.
A lot of people were doubting as the bubbles they blew rose but soon, the bubbles started extending and popping. Each pop was loud enough to startle them but the bubbles united slowly, forming hexagonal shield cells.
As the drizzle started to be cut off. Major Elio shook his head. "I will be damned, these girly bubbles actually work."
His wife Tia shook her head. "There is no such thing as girly bubbles Elio."
"Then why is it pink?" He asked her.
"Doesn’t mean its a girl bubble." Tia answered.
Major Elio looked at his four year old daughter Mickey that was blowing bubbles enthusiastically, jumping for joy each time one floated up and popped. In an hour, she had only been successful with three but she was not giving up.
Her little face was red as she huffed and puffed, delivering more saliva than air into the small bubble.
"Mickey honey, are these girl bubbles or boy bubbles?" he asked her.
Mickey paused the blowing and said, "Girl daddy, they look like my skirt."
She twirled, showing off her pink tutu skirt.
Major Elio smiled smugly at his wife, daring her to counter his argument. "That’s my girl. Good work sergeant Mickey."
Mickey giggled, gave a childish salute and then went back to bubble blowing task.
Meanwhile, Jon and the other neighboring base owners arrived and Hades sneered at them. He did not even teach them but sent Warren to do it.
Jon was very irritated. That sneer felt personal. He sulked and started to plot revenge in his mind. He was already jealous of Hades’s base which was more organized and well built.
Now he was jealous of this technology. Where had Hades found his team of researchers? Jon wanted to find out and dig them up. He looked around, searching for someone to bribe.
If he failed to find one, he would send in Trevor as an undercover spy.
Jon asked to use the bathroom but he was using it as an opportunity to eavesdrop. He could hear soldiers talking and they seemed to be discussing Hades’s wife.
"One soldier swears that the sky shook when she run."
"Ha_ha! Funny because someone said that her footsteps don’t make a sound. She hunts like a ghost."
"I heard her husband can leap like a vampire from one tree to another. Apparently Major Elio said he was like the perfect super soldier."
Jon frowned. Hades was like a super soldier, since when?
"Time to go if you are not going to ease yourself." The soldier that was escorting Jon to the bathroom which was used by new arrivals and soldiers that worked around the entrance notified Jon.
Jon Kingsley moved slowly to the bathroom, pretended to ease himself and then washed his hands and was escorted back to the group of outsiders that was being escorted off the base like thieves.
After the bubble shield around the base was set up successfully, Sunshine addressed the people again. "Thank you all for participating in this activity. The gel must be applied daily until the acid rain period ends. Let me be clear, this is not a shelter and you are not on vacation." She emphasized. "Every person here must pull their weight, whether you are an adult or a child." She asserted.
"Child? What do you expect our children to do? They are already afraid and traumatized by the move and all this talk of the apocalypse. Now you want to force them to work! " Helena Drew, a well known loud politician shouted from the crowd.
Helena was already disgruntled that she was living in the second wall area. In her opinion, a prominent woman like herself should have been in the inner wall. So, she had a few bones to pick with Sunshine.
Sunshine stared at the woman and could easily tell that she was a person that would argue with a dictionary to win.
"Like you said they are traumatized so we have created programs to counsel them and teach them survival skills and other knowledge. In an apocalypse it does not matter if you are an adult or child you must have basic survival skills. I have children too and I want what is best for them." Sunshine tore her gaze away
"Step children you mean?" Helena stepped forward. "Do you really have their best interests at heart?" Helena touched her chest, doubt lingering in her eyes.
